#ThursdayThoughts

When you don't have money, you think money is going to solve your problems —and to some extent it does.
But at a certain point it brings its own problems with it.
Having money is like a having a child.
You have to care for it, you have to tend to it, and you have to watch it every minute!
You do this not only to make sure it grows, but to make sure it doesn’t shrink.
Money is alive and volatile!
That means I am constantly thinking about my money.
If you’ve never experienced it, it might be hard for you to understand.
Amazing feeling! But that’s what’s crazy. I mean, I enjoy all this stuff well enough.
But as far as my possessions go, honestly — and I’ve really thought about this — I get more pleasure from my FAMILY than anything else.
That’s the truth, the absolute fucking truth.
Materially, I don’t need much to be happy.
I already have everything I want.
What I am working for, if I am entirely honest, is just the thrill of making more money.
It’s like playing a game, a game in which the prize is power, the power that is represented by that money.
Power for what? It doesn't matter!
The prize is the power itself. It is the feeling of power.
There is a sensation I get when I make money… If you haven’t experienced it, I can only compare it to sex, or gambling, or a drug.
It’s exactly like that — maybe even better.
So my investments and my business ventures are like various casino games, except in my games the odds usually favor me…. And what I live for on a daily basis — this is the darned truth — is just the thrill of playing those games.
I first started to realize how fucked I was when I found myself thinking about other people’s professions in terms of the bottom line.
I mean, I have a pal from childhood who is a doctor, and I found myself thinking what an irrational job choice this was for him. He cares about money too, and I just thought, what a waste, how inefficient a use of his time and talent… there are so many better ways to make money.
Crazy, huh?
I don’t know what the hell it’s like to be a doctor, but I would guess there’s a whole level of meaning there that people get off on.
I am not sure I like who I am.
But I have no choice, no more than a lifelong drug or sex addict does.
I see businessmen bullshit themselves about why they are really doing it — you know, that they are trying to improve society, or it’s all for their family, or whatever other bull crap.
That could just be PR, but it also can be self-deception.
Don’t fool yourself, I think!
I know you!
You’re just feeding the monkey! … So, that’s my story.
I am not entirely proud of my life, but I accept it.
I try to be as comfortable as I can, to have as much fun as I can, but I’m not in denial about anything.
I know I’m basically just a junkie living for the next hit of MONEY.

Pace versus potential

After watching Usain Bolt eliminate his competitors with ease, this article should make you think:

You want pace? Or maximise your potential?

Have you ever noticed a strange thing when you get off the highway onto an off ramp or side road? On the highway you're doing about 100 km an hour, and the speed limit on the side road says 60 km an hour.
You hit the brakes, and think you may have slowed down to 60.
Yet, you're still doing 80 plus.
Horrors! You were sure you'd slowed down enough and yet you haven't.

You're experiencing pace vs. potential.

If you were driving at 60 before you hit the off ramp, you'd do 60 quite easily.
It's because you were oh-so-fast, that you ended doing an 80.
But how the heck are you going to ever do an 80 in your life, if you don't hit 100?

Because when you're on 100, even your hit-the-brake speed is a good 80.

People hate to be pushed

They want to go at their own pace. They believe they know what's good for them. Yet your life is like a car. You don't know your potential till you really hit the accelerator. You don't know how far you can go unless you hit feel the tires steaming up.

Look around you. The little ol' lady in the next lane is still getting to her destination, but she'll get there whenever. At her own pace. Pace is great. But potential, ah...now that's when you really know the stuff you're made of.

Which is why even Usain Bolt has a coach
Which is why Usain is the best sprinter in the world. Because his coach knows the pace of the Bolt. But the coach pushes Usain to his potential.
The difference between pace and potential isn't always a big gap. Try it. It will make a world of a difference in both your business as well as your personal life.
Pace is good. But pace is you. And goodness gracious, you don't really know yourself as well as you think you do.

  • Potential is when you hit the accelerator. When you find what is really possible to achieve. Once you know what you can achieve you're breaking the speed limit.
  • Usain Bolt is naturally talented. Yeah right. So are a million other athletes. The difference between Usain and the other runners is Usain Bolt doesn't keep to the pace of the others. He keeps stretching his own potential. You should too.

What happens naturally in companies...

Only three things happen naturally in organizations:
friction,
confusion,
and underperformance.
Everything else requires leadership.

Self belief

Acquire the courage to believe in yourself.
Many of the things that you have been taught were at one time the radical ideas of individuals who had the courage to believe what their own hearts and minds told them was true, rather than accept the common beliefs of their day.
If you are on a zero (0) level, it does not mean you are out; it only means one thing: that you have a choice to make.
You can choose to stay and do nothing, you can choose to stay and keep turning around in that same spot or you can choose to rise up and draw a new path, a new course.
Staying down doing nothing means soon the little ants too, will overpower you.
Turning in one spot, looking for somebody to pull you up, soon you will realize that you are digging your own grave; it's just 6 feet under.
If you chose to stand again, you might need to crawl first to get momentum and then walk towards your new goal.
0 is more powerful than -6.
When you fall, you are only on 0 level.
It's up to you to decide which way to go.
You can do 01 or -0.
How much do you think you are worth when you are down?
Nothing?
Think again.
What is the worth of an idea? All in this world was once an idea.
The first idea you will need is how to get up.
Why did you fall and how did you fall?
Solve that and you are on your way to the top.
All we buy in this world are someone else's solutions.
If you know how, then YOU have the solution.
When you have the solution then you are on your way to the top.
Somebody out there needs to know it's not over until you say so
